Poet, Historian, and Philosopher
John Neihardt (1881 - 1973) had many accomplishments, but was an esteemed writer. One of his well-known works being Black Elk Speaks.
Neihardt spent part of his childhood in Nebraska and attended Nebraska's Normal College at Wayne. He graduated with a teaching degree at the age of 15 and completed his Bachelors at 16-years-old.
He worked a number of teaching and editorial positions prior to pursuing his love of poetry and literature.
John Neihardt was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame in 1973-74.
