BACKGROUND NOTE

In the early 1920s, Ed Sias operated the Lincoln Auto and Tractor School at 24th & O Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, in the same building that housed the Lincoln Standard Aircraft Company. By 1929, Sias had changed the name to Lincoln Auto and Airplane School. The next year it became known as the Lincoln Airplane and Flying School. The Lincoln Airplane and Flying School was always separate from the Lincoln Standard Aircraft Company, operated by Ray Page. The Lincoln Airplane and Flying School closed down sometime after World War II, but by 1950, the Lincoln Aeronautical Institute was in operation. It lasted into the mid-1980s.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
