BACKGROUND NOTE

To help observe Nebraska’s centennial in 1967, a “Hall of Fame of Builders of Nebraska” was sponsored by Lincoln’s Sunday Journal and Star. Plans were made “To honor the one hundred people who have contributed the most to the growth and development of Nebraska.” Nominations were sought from readers, and a panel of experts validated the nominee’s achievements and narrowed the list of nominations to 100. The Builders of Nebraska Hall of Fame has been continued annually after the Centennial year, adding one person a year. A special feature appeared in the March 5, 1967, Journal and Star honoring the original 100 members in the Nebraska Builders Hall of Fame.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection relates to nominations for entry into the “Builders of Nebraska Hall of Fame.” The bulk of this collection consists of copies of nominations for The Builders of Nebraska Hall of Fame by the Sunday Journal and Star. Seacrest of the Sunday Journal and Star to the panel of experts who were to choose the 100 Builders of Nebraska. About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
