BACKGROUND NOTE

Carl Alfred Olson was a farmer in Nebraska and Colorado.  He first homesteaded near Mead, Nebraska, but later moved west to Holyoke, Colorado.  Afterwards, he came back to Mead.  Olson died at Stromsburg, Nebraska in 1927 and is buried in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection, recorded on one reel of microfilm, is arranged into one series:  Day Books, 1869-1911.  They consist of mainly brief descriptions of Olson’s daily farming activities.  Also included are entries pertaining to weather, moon phases, history, as well as two quarterly examinations of teachers, and a teacher’s monthly report; all from Colorado and dated 1894.  Except for the printed matter, the material is written in Swedish.  It’s unknown which portion of the Day Books relate to Olson’s Nebraska years.

The volumes were loaned for microfilming in May of 1977.
