BACKGROUND NOTE
Charles Clinton Caldwell, son of Charles and May (Bostetter) Caldwell, was born March 16, 1903. His mother died when he was just six months old. The 1910 census shows Charles and his father living in Fairbury, Nebraska. In 1920 they were living in Lincoln, Nebraska, with Charles’ uncle and aunt, Daniel and Myra (Caldwell) Cropsey. By 1929 Charles had joined the Army, serving as a reserve officer with the 7th Corps. In 1932 he was working as an assistant inspector with the Department of Agriculture. In 1933 he was serving at the Citizens’ Military Training Camp at Fort Crook, Nebraska, as Assistant to the Senior Instructor. By November of 1933 Caldwell was with Camp Webster, Red Cloud, Nebraska, 761 Company C.C.C. Caldwell reenlisted in the Army in 1941 and was released from service in 1947. Charles Clinton Caldwell died in Florida on January 2nd, 1990 and is buried at Saint John’s Episcopal Church Living Garden in Melbourne, Florida.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one box of papers of Charles C. Caldwell dating from ca. 1930 to 1942. The papers relate primarily to Caldwell’s service as a reserve officer in the 7th Corps of the Army and his work with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Also included is information about Caldwell’s employment with the Department of Agriculture. The papers are organized by year.
