BACKGROUND NOTE

Charles Franklin Ladd was born in Winchester, Illinois. Ladd graduated from the University of Pennsylvania College of dentistry. By 1885 he was practicing dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1891 he married Minnie B. Latta, the daughter of Lincoln pioneer William Storey Latta. Dr. Ladd received a Law degree from the University of Nebraska in 1898.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection relates mostly to the career, family and activities of Charles Franklin Ladd. It is arranged in seven series: 1) Correspondence; 2) Red Cross data, 1917-1945; 3) Tour materials, China, Japan, and the Philippines, 1920; 4) Account books, 1874, 1881-1882; 5) Postcards; 6) Miscellaneous; 7) Volumes; and 8) Certificates. The bulk of the material consists of correspondence and printed data relating to Charles F. Ladd’s service as president of the Lincoln, Nebraska Country Club, 1912-1915; activities of the Red Cross during WWI and WWII; a tour of China and Japan in the 1920s; and family materials. Of particular interest is an autobiographical volume, written and illustrated by Ladd.
