BACKGROUND NOTE

Born May 4, 1840, Charles R. Smith moved with his family to Table Rock, Nebraska, from Pennsylvania about the year 1874, later buying a farm northeast of Table Rock.  Sometime in the 1890s the family moved to Elk Creek in Johnson County where Smith operated as a lumber, coal and grain merchant.  By 1910 the family had moved to University Place in Lancaster County.  He died at University Place on May 10, 1923.  He is buried in the Table Rock Cemetery at Table Rock, Nebraska, next to his wife, Helen.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of one item, an invoice book of Charles R. Smith recording business transactions dating from 1897-1901.  Invoice number, date, item, and amount are shown.  The volume dates from when Smith was living at Elk Creek, Nebraska.
