Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska; Washington D.C.:  Congressional page and White House intern
Size:  0.5 cu. ft., 1 box

Douglas G. Voegler of Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska, was nominated by Congressman Robert V. Denney to fill a Republican page position in the U.S. Congress, selected on the basis of merit and his leadership record at Schuyler High School. Voegler served six months as a page during 1969. In 1971 Voegler worked as an intern in the office of Senator Roman L. Hruska. The following year he was a student intern in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. In 1973, after receiving his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska, Voegler became one of twenty-eight White House summer interns in the Office of Presidential Papers. During this internship, Voegler was involved in helping to organize the Nixon Library.

The collection consists of one box of materials relating to Douglas G. Voegler's experiences as a Congressional page and White House intern. The correspondence in the collection mainly relates to Voegler's consideration and appointment as page and intern, as well as a few invitations to White House receptions and two postcards sent home to his family. Of special interest are the journals Voegler kept during his time as a Congressional page. Dating from January to July of 1969, the journals record his experiences in Washington D.C. The remainder of the collection includes various articles and clippings about Voegler's time in Washington D.C., information about the Capitol Page School, White House, and U.S. Congress, and miscellaneous materials from the 1969 Presidential Inauguration.
