Researchers can borrow reels of microfilm through public and institutional libraries and participating LDS Family History Centers.
Information for Researchers
- All requests must be initiated by the library.
- Fees are $10.00 per reel. Payments may be made by credit card or check. Check payments must be included with the request in order to prevent delays in processing and shipping. Payments by the researcher must include local and sales tax. A pre-printed mailing label must be included.
- Four reels of film may be loaned to any library at a given time for a period of five weeks. Extensions must be requested by the library before the due date and may be approved for up to five weeks.
- All reels must remain at the library at all times. No exceptions.
Microfilm available to loan:
- Newspapers microfilmed by History Nebraska
- Most manuscript collections, books, and academic monographs
- Some government records and photo collections
Microfilm NOT available to loan:
- Newspaper microfilm purchased by History Nebraska from commercial vendors, including the Nebraska State Journal, the Lincoln Journal, and the Lincoln Star
- Frequently used public records, such as census, naturalization, and marriage records
- Restricted manuscripts or public records

- Requests must be submitted on ALA Interlibrary Loan forms or library letterhead. Requests must be submitted by mail or email – no phone requests will be fulfilled.
- Fees are $10.00 per reel. Payments by check must be included with the request in order to prevent delays in processing and shipping. Payments by the researcher must include local and sales tax. A pre-printed mailing label must be included.
- Consult the inventory for newspaper requests in order to submit the correct payment.
- Requests will be processed and shipped within ten working days of payment and request receipt.
- Replacement cost for lost or damaged film is typically $75.00 per reel.
