BACKGROUND NOTE



Born at Pemberton, New Jersey, on October 10, 1920, Earl P. Bowker enlisted in the Army on August 25, 1942.  He served as a dog handler at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, during World War II.  Bowker married Doris Hildebrand in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 20, 1943.  Earl P. Bowker died on August 16, 2002 at Dakota City, Nebraska.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of two items relating to Earl P. Bowker’s military service during World War II.  The first document lists military experience of Bowker, including handling and training war dogs.  The second document is Bowker’s Separation Qualification Record listing his separation date as October 31, 1945.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
