BACKGROUND NOTE



Born in Ohio in 1833, Edgar Reynolds moved with his family to Iowa.  Reynolds left Iowa in 1852 and traveled to California.  He returned from California in 1865.  Reynolds married Electa Foote in 1866, and by 1870, the couple was farming in Nemaha County, Nebraska.  By 1880, the couple had moved to Johnson County.  Reynolds continued to farm in Johnson County, and by 1910, the couple had moved into Tecumseh.  Edgar Reynolds died in Tecumseh, Nebraska, on February 24, 1919.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing three diaries dating from 1852-1865.  The diaries relate to Reynolds’ overland journey to California from Iowa and his return.  Also included is a partial transcript (not on microfilm).

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
