BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Ernest Raymond Misner, son of Reuben Delos Misner and Alice (Babcock) Misner, was born on December 25, 1883, near Stockham, Nebraska.  His mother Alice died the next year of diphtheria.  Ernest was mostly raised by his uncle and aunt, Hiram and Catharine Misner.  He graduated from the Leland Powers School of the Spoken Word of Boston, Massachusetts, and the Phidelah Rice School of the Spoken Word, Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.

Misner spent several years performing on the Lyceum and Chautauqua circuits before returning to Nebraska.  He served four years as head of the Dramatic Department at York College in York, Nebraska.  Misner then formed the Misner School of the Spoken Word in Omaha.  The school moved from several locations around Omaha until finding a more permanent home at 32nd and Dodge in 1923.  Even while running the Misner School, he continued touring with The Misner Players on the Lyceum and Chautauqua circuits.  He also served as General Director of Associated Chautauquas of America at Topeka, Kansas.

Ernest Raymond Misner eventually moved to California.  He died in Los Angeles in July of 1945.  He is buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.
