Soon after, they settled in Newman Grove, Madison County, Nebraska. They had one son, Frederick William Pike, before Maria died in 1884. Upon arriving in Newman Grove, Pike began farming. He remained a farmer for the rest of his life, although material in this collection indicates that he was a partner in a dry goods business with J.T. Hoffman for a while. Pike remarried in 1885.
