BACKGROUND NOTE

The "Hall in the Grove" Society was founded in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1888 at the T. H. Leavitt home at 1216 H. Street.  Its purpose was to continue the Chautauqua plan of study.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection is related to the Hall in the Grove Society, its activities and administration.  The purpose of the group was the "extension of the original Chautauqua principles of study, association, entertainment and improvement."  The records are arranged in four series: 1) Record books and reports, 1888-1966; 2) Historical records and papers; 3) Chautauquan programs and 4) Miscellaneous.
