BACKGROUND NOTE

Born in New Jersey on September 17, 1896, Harry Hamlin Kretzler was the son of Henry and Emma (Beam) Kretzler.  Harry’s father died in 1906, and by 1909 Emma had moved to Nebraska with Harry and his two younger sisters.  Harry attended the University of Nebraska in the late 1910s to early 1920s and was on the track team.  After graduating from the medical college, he moved to the Seattle, Washington area.  He spent his career practicing medicine.  Harry H. Kretzler died on December 31, 1982.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of six folders of papers collected by Harry Kretzler.  The materials relate to Harry Kretzler’s family and to his time at the University of Nebraska.  Included are correspondence, military papers, genealogical materials, clippings and ephemera.  Materials in the collection date from ca. 165 to 1961. The correspondence of T.H. Mitchell concerns land sales in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Nebraska and Wisconsin.  Mitchell lived in Hastings, Minnesota, and was apparently a relative of Kretzler.  The military records consist of various service and discharge papers of several of Kretzler’s uncles.
