SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one folder containing two handwritten papers by Inez Elizabeth Minney.  The two papers were written by Minney for class projects in 1925 and 1926.  The first paper, “The History of Palmyra, Nebraska,” was written on January 7, 1925, and includes information she received from Mrs. Lem Merwin.  The second paper, “Territorial Reminiscences,” was written by Minney in 1926 from information received from a Mrs. Orrison.  Both papers describe frontier and pioneer life in Otoe County, Nebraska.  Also included are typed transcriptions of the papers done in 1975.



Note:  The moving image component [RG1309.MI] contains two VHS tapes containing a “History of Palmyra” by Gera Stilwell and Bob Fey.  The first tape is from 1996 and the second tape is from 2000.  Scripts to both videos are also included.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
