SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of miscellaneous papers relating to James Knox Jones’ military service during World War I. Included in the collection are letters from Jones to Virginia Bowen (his future wife); enlistment and discharge certificates; two German documents found by Jones in a German trench; letters asking for a discharge for Jones so that he may attend college; a map of France; a cartoon book entitled, “Wally, His Cartoons of the A.E.F.”; and misc. other certificates.
Note: See also the photo component [RG5805.PH] which consists of three (3) items: a photo postcard of Jones in uniform; a portrait of Jones in uniform; and a panoramic photo of the 78th Division. The Nebraska History Museum holds various artifacts relating to James Knox Jones’ service in WWI. Not all artifacts are on display. Interested researchers should contact the Museum Collections office to set up an appointment.
