Born at Hancock, Ohio, in 1844, James Mumford Woods served in the Heavy Artillery Regiment of Ohio Volunteers during the Civil War. After the war, Woods attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and Cleveland Medical College. After receiving his medical degree, he married Sophronia Cline at Hancock, Ohio, on November 24, 1870. Soon after, the couple moved to Schuyler, Nebraska, and Dr. Woods opened his medical practice. Woods practiced in Schuyler until his death on March 12, 1919. James Mumford Woods is buried in the Schuyler Cemetery. Sophronia (Cline) Woods died in Los Angeles on December 22, 1932.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one folder containing a photocopy of a transcription of extracts of birth records kept by Dr. James Woods at Schuyler, Nebraska, from 1872 to 1905. The transcription includes an index, biographical notes on Dr. Woods, and compiler's notes (compiled by Morris W. Abbott in 1936).
