BACKGROUND NOTE

Born at Meadow Grove, Nebraska, in 1916, Keith Wiese was the son of John and Florentine (Derr) Wiese.  He grew up in Meadow Grove and after graduating from high school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.  Wiese enlisted in the military in December of 1937 and served in the Army Air Corps and then the Army Finance Office.  He served in various administrative positions in the U.S. during World War II.  After the war, Wiese was stationed at various places throughout the U.S. and Germany.  He served for a time in Korea before returning to the United States.  Wiese retired from the military in 1964.

Following his military retirement, Wiese went to work for several companies and government offices doing data processing and computer programming in the Maryland and Washington D.C. area.  He retired again in 1976.  Keith I. Wiese spent the remainder of his life living in Maryland.  He died on May 10, 1992 and is buried in Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, Browningsville, Maryland.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one volume of typescript reminiscences written by Keith Wiese covering the years 1916-1985.  Titled, "Keith’s Kronicle," the reminiscences document Wiese's life, including growing up in Meadow Grove, Nebraska; serving in the Civilian Conservation Corp Company 763 at Tecumseh, Nebraska; enlisting in the Army in 1938 and various military assignments until his retirement from the military in 1964.  The reminiscences go on to cover working for several companies and government offices in data processing and computer programming, and various other stories and anecdotes.  Also included is genealogical information.
