BACKGROUND NOTE

Leland M. Hancock, son of Nathan and Anna Hancock, was born on July 4, 1919 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He attended the University of Nebraska for civil engineering.  Hancock served in the Army during World War II.  After the war he returned to Lincoln and spent the rest of his career as a highway engineer.  Leland M. Hancock died on March 16, 2006.  He is buried in Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln, Nebraska.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The majority of the materials in the collection relate to an automated traffic control and driving system tested in Lincoln in the 1950s.  Materials include copies of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, etc.  Also included in the collection is one folder containing materials relating to a Nebraska state song competition held in 1963.  Items in this folder include correspondence, copies of newspaper clippings, and sheet music for Mr. Hancock’s submission, “Along Nebraskaland Trail.”
