BACKGROUND NOTE

The Lincoln Dinner Club was begun in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1942, for the purpose of “exchanging ideas and information following a good meal.” Meetings, at variable intervals, were held at the Hotel Cornhusker. At each meeting a speaker would preside. This was an organization for both men and women; a limited number of people could join at a given time. Due to dwindling membership and lack of funds the organization disbanded in May of 1969.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of the records of the Lincoln Dinner Club, and is arranged in five series: 1) General Files, 1942-1969, chronologically arranged; 2) Financial Records, September 1957 – May 1969; 3) Programs, 1942-1949 and 1952-1969; 4) Photographs, 1943-1952; and 5) Miscellaneous, 1942-1969. About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
