BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Born at Oakdale, Nebraska, on September 28, 1887, Luther Reinhold Swanson Branting married Louise J. Misko in the late 1910s.  He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War I.  Census records for 1920 show Luther as working for the railroad at Alliance, Nebraska as a civil engineer.  The Brantings later moved to Bauxite, Arkansas, where he worked as superintendent of the bauxite mine.  He died on September 15, 1957 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains biographical information about Luther Reinhold Swanson Branting, including a handwritten biography by Mrs. Louise Branting and a copy of the newsletter, "Pick and Shovel," September 1944, vol. 1, no. 9, which contains an article about and photos of Branting.
