BACKGROUND NOTE
Born in Howard County, Nebraska, on October 22, 1900, Lynn H. Scott was the son of William and Sarah (Baird) Scott. He married Oma Stone at Grand Island, Nebraska, on September 6, 1922. The couple farmed in the Gage Valley area of Howard County. After his retirement, Scott wrote about his early childhood. His stories were compiled into the book, The Covered Wagon & Other Adventures, which was published by the University of Nebraska Press in 1987. The book won first place for Outstanding Juvenile Story at the Oklahoma Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1988. Lynn H. Scott died on November 9, 1998 at St. Paul, Nebraska. He is buried next to his wife in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Palmer, Nebraska.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection contains a holograph manuscript, “A Trip to Thermopolis,” written and illustrated by Lynn H. Scott. The manuscript is in two parts, “A Trip to Thermopolis” and “McKee’s Mill,” and contains Scott’s reminiscences of an overland journey by wagon to Thermopolis, Wyoming, growing up on the frontier, experiences in Oregon, family life, etc. The manuscript was published in 1987 as The Covered Wagon and Other Adventures. The collection also includes a short biographical sketch of Lynn H. Scott, and a photocopy of the holograph manuscript.
