BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Born March 24, 1890, in Weeping Water, Nebraska, Mabel E. (Cutter) Packer Lewton was the daughter of Abrahm and Annie Cutter.  On September 21, 1916 she married Dr. John M. Packer, residing in Memphis, Nebraska, for two years and then Ashland, Nebraska, for thirty-five years.  Dr. Packer died in 1956.  On June 14, 1959, Mabel married Ellis Lewton.  The couple moved to Stanton, Nebraska, where they lived for nineteen years.

Mabel was a member of numerous organizations throughout her life, including the First Christian Church in Ashland; P.E.O. Sisterhood of Ashland; Ashland Woman’s Club; Matthews Chapter 242, Order of the Eastern Star; P.E.O. Sisterhood of Stanton; Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church; and the Stanton Woman’s Club.  She died on December 1, 1978.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of two boxes containing papers and records collected by Mabel Packer Lewton.  The materials generally relate to the various organizations she served in over the years.  The collection is not fully processed, but an inventory is available.
