BACKGROUND NOTE

Formed in 1867 in Brownville, Nebraska, the Nemaha County Agricultural and Mechanical Association was primarily made up of farmers and mechanics working within Nemaha County.  According to their constitution, the purpose of the association was for “improvement in all the branches of the Several Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Stock raising and Mechanics,” and to “collect Statistics of Agricultural matters and to discuss all topics affecting the prosperity of its members as Farmers and Mechanics.”

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one folder containing records relating to the Nemaha County Agricultural and Mechanical Association.  Items include the Association’s constitution, announcements and proceedings of meetings, as well as a deed for land in Nemaha County.  Also included is a premium list for the second fair of the Nemaha County Agricultural Society.  The materials date from 1867-1870.
