BACKGROUND NOTE

The People’s City Mission in Lincoln, Nebraska, was started in 1907 by local churches.  They began offering food and shelter for transient and impoverished men, women and children.  Today, the People’s City Mission is Lincoln’s primary homeless shelter housing 350 men, women, and children on an average day.  The Mission provides emergency and transitional housing to both men and families (including single mothers).

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of three boxes of records relating to the People's City Mission.  The records date from ca. 1920 to 1997.  Included in the collection are various histories of the organization, newspaper clippings, correspondence, newsletters, pamphlets and brochures and other printed materials.  The collection is unprocessed, but a box inventory is available.
