BACKGROUND NOTE



Perry Branch graduated from Lincoln High school in 1916, and attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1920 as one of the first business administration majors. While at NU he was a member of the Iron Sphinx, Vikings, Kosmet Klub and Phi Kappa Psi. In 1920 he joined Branch brothers, a wholesale show company, serving with the firm until 1943. Mr. Branch was appointed director and secretary of the NU foundation in 1943 and was given custody of some $40,000 in assets. At the time of his retirement the foundation listed assets near $5 million after 20 years under his direction. Perry Branch died in July of 1971 in Scottsdale, Arizona.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one box of material arranged in three series: 1) Correspondence, 1897-1922; 2) Diary, 1915; and 3) Miscellany. The bulk of the correspondence consists of letters written to Mr. Branch during his service in World War I. The diary was kept while he was a student at Lincoln High School.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
