BACKGROUND NOTE

Born in Ohio in 1836, Rebecca (Culbertson) Low Hutchinson was the wife of Rev. Samuel Hutchinson.  They lived in Cherry County, Nebraska, near Fort Niobrara.  Rebecca died on March 27, 1887, and is presumed to be buried in Kewanee Cemetery in Cherry County, Nebraska.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of letters from Rebecca Hutchinson to her family in Illinois. Mrs. Hutchinson, wife of Rev. Samuel M. Hutchinson, describes farm life at Fort Niobrara, Nebraska, particularly crops cultivated, and mentions Rev. Hutchinson's religious work. The letters are in typescript form.
