HISTORICAL NOTE



There is little information available except that this church was organized in January of 1871, in Otoe County, Nebraska. Some biographical notes on persons mentioned in this volume may be found in R.E. Dale’s “Otoe County Pioneers.”



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing one volume of records of St. John’s Parish, German Evangelical Church in Otoe County, Nebraska. This volume, spanning the years 1871-1917, contains membership rolls, confirmations, baptisms, burials, communications, weddings and charity. The entries are written entirely in German.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
