SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The manuscript portion of the collection consists of records relating to the Weaver’s Potato Chip Company, Inc. of Lincoln, Neb. The records consist mostly of correspondence and invoices dating from the 1930s. Also included are various undated drawings and illustrations used for advertising purposes as well as a scrapbook relating to the retirement of Ed Weaver, Jr.

The photo component consists of various b&w prints primarily used for advertising by the Weaver’s Potato Chip Company. Images include store displays of Weaver’s products as well as workers at various stations on the factory floor. The majority of images appear to date from the 1950s-1970s. Also included is an album containing images of employees, events, parties, retirements, offices and warehouses dating from ca. 1960s-1990s.

Note: Additional artifacts relating to the Weaver’s Potato Chip Company are held in the collections of the NSHS Nebraska History Museum. Not all artifacts are on display. Interested researchers must contact the Museum Collections department to make an appointment.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
