Born January 15, 1898, at Newcastle, Nebraska, William Wallace Ellyson graduated from Newcastle High School and went on to attend Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1918.  He married Nada Addison at Newcastle, Nebraska, on July 2, 1920.  Ellyson worked for Davidson Brothers Department Store in Sioux City for five years before joining the J.C. Penney Company at Columbus, Nebraska, in 1927.  He managed the J.C. Penney store at West Point, Nebraska, and then transferred to North Platte in 1939.  Ellyson retired from management in 1958.

Ellyson was active in the North Platte community, serving as director of the North Platte Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the North Platte city council and the North Platte airport authority.  William Wallace Ellyson died in North Platte on April 15, 1995.  His wife preceded him in death in 198.  Three daughters survived the couple.  William and Nada Ellyson are buried in North Platte Cemetery at North Platte, Nebraska.


The collection consists of one folder containing a photocopy of the autobiographical writings of William Wallace Ellyson.  Entitled “Mountain of You,” the writings cover Ellyson’s youth growing up in Dixon County, Nebraska, and continue through his meeting and marriage of sixty-four years to Nada Addison.  The writings include his time in charge of J.C. Penney store operations, as well as serving on the North Platte city council.  Scattered throughout are photocopies of family photos, newspaper clippings, etc.
