The initial organizational meeting of representatives from a number of Lincoln’s women’s organizations took place at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce on November 30, 1945.  The meeting included representatives from the Lincoln Woman’s Club, Lincoln Quota Club, Lincoln B. & P. Club, Nebraska State Nurses Association, Y.W.C.A., A.A.U.W., Axis, Democratic Women’s Club, City Council P.T.A., League of Women Voters, Lincoln Council of Church Women, Beta Sigma Phi, Better Films Council and the Cosmetology Group.  December 11, 1945 marked the first regular meeting of the newly established Women’s Inter-Club Council.  Additional organizations that would join the Council included Altrusa, American War Mothers, P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Ladies, Tifereth Israel Sisterhood, Federated Church Women, Republican Business Women, Junior League and the Urban League.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
