BACKGROUND NOTE



The Zetetic Club of Weeping Water, Nebraska, organized on June 14, 1884.  The object of the club was for mutual intellectual improvement and social enjoyment.  Members met every other week to discuss works by various authors, historical figures, geography and social customs of foreign countries, etc.  The Zetetic Club officially disbanded on April 4, 1919.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of two boxes of records of the Zetetic Club of Weeping Water, Nebraska.  The records include correspondence, treasurer and secretary records, constitution and bylaws, and programs and yearbooks of the club.  Also include is one folder containing miscellaneous programs and yearbooks from other clubs.  The materials in this collection date from ca. 1890 to 1918.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
