HISTORICAL NOTE



The first building of the Zion United Church of Christ in Gering, Nebraska, was constructed in 1886. This was the first church building in the community. The present congregation was organized in 1931 under the name of Evangelical Zion Lutheran Church. In 1946 the existing edifice was completed.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of three volumes of records of the Zion United Church of Christ, Gering, Nebraska, on one reel of microfilm. These records relate to church activities, 1937-1971. Included are records of pastors, baptisms, members, officers, financial affairs, and minutes of annual and consistory meetings.



This material was loaned for microfilming in May of 1971 by the Zion United Church of Christ, Gering, Nebraska.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
