The NSHS Archeology Division co-hosted the 38th Flint Hills Archeology Conference along with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District. The meeting was held March 25 and 26 at the Natural Resources District Office at Wehrspan Lake in southwest Omaha but also featured a tour of Fort Atkinson State Historical Park. NSHS staff in attendance included: Nolan Johnson, Karen Steinauer, Diane Laffin, Cassie Clark, and Rob Bozell. Johnson and Bozell presented papers. The Flint Hills Conference is named after the Flint Hills Region of Kansas and Oklahoma and is typically a small affair with papers and discussions about research and issues relating to the archeology of the Central and Southern Plains. It is regularly attended by archeologists and enthusiasts from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. This is only the second time it has been held in Nebraska. — Rob Bozell, Associate Director, NSHS Archeology Division

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
