On May 12, 2014, the Avery Hall cornerstone on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus was chiseled open to retrieve the time capsule inside. This capsule contained a collection of objects that summed up the Department of Chemistry as it was in 1916. Here was the sole copy of a biography about Dr. Rachel Lloyd, America's first female PH. D. in Chemistry and UNL's second chemistry professor. She was instrumental in bringing the sugar beet industry to the state of Nebraska. Learn what his time capsule added to UNL's rich history.
