BACKGROUND NOTE
Born on April 20, 1926, at Murdock, Nebraska, Herbert “Herb” Louis Klemme graduated from Murdock High School in 1944. After graduating, Herb enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on Guam during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he received his bachelor’s degree in music in 1950, a master’s degree in administration in 1953, and eventually an education specialist degree in 1969. Herb worked for a time as a music educator before accepting a position as Principal at Morrill, Nebraska. In later years he served as superintendent at various schools in Nebraska, including Elgin, Oakland and finally the Dawson-Verdon public schools. Herb Klemme died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 17, 2011.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one box of papers relating to Herb Klemme’s military service during World War II. The bulk of the collection consists of a scrapbook compiled by Klemme containing various items from his service during World War II. Included are training certificates, photographs, postcards and other miscellaneous ephemera. Also included are a few loose military documents and brief reminiscences by Klemme.
