Thomas P. Kennard State Historic Site, Nebraska’s Statehood Memorial (25LC15)
This house built in 1869 has gone through many changes. Archeology gave us information beyond written records. Excavations in 1992 focused on the rear wing of the house that no longer stands. The Nebraska State Historical Society and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Summer Field School in Archeology uncovered information that can be used for an accurate reconstruction of the original rear wing.
The investigation revealed several important features at the site. We helped create a more complete understanding of the house’s architectural history.
