Can We Take The Elevator To The Top?

1:30 pm, Auditorium

At least 37 states have a Chimney Rock. Some of them are famous in their own right. With so many places with the same name, it can be a bit confusing for the public. History Nebraska’s Loren Pospisil will talk about some of these other places and share some stories of Chimney Rock confusion.

Living History Demonstrations

2:00 – 4:00 pm, Outside

Author Cody Assmann will talk about fur trading and mountain men, demonstrating the tools and tricks of the mountain men’s’ trade.

Indians and Emigrants

2:30 pm, Auditorium

When emigrants were spilling across the Plains, they were not entering a vast unexplored wilderness. They were traveling across people’s lands and homes. Despite the stereotypes presented to us in movies and fiction, contact between Native Americans and emigrants were more often characterized by cooperation than conflict. History Nebraska’s Loren Pospisil will be telling this story.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
