Brown Bag Lecture: When We Went to the Moon

“The Eagle Has Landed” With those words, humankind had set foot on another astronomical body, forever free of the boundaries of our terrestrial world.

On that July evening, Nebraskans joined people across the globe to watch the enthralling images of astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin exploring the moon a quarter of a million miles away.

And back in Nebraska? Retrace the journey of Apollo 11 through the lens of life in the Cornhusker state in 1969. Learn about the interesting connections and contributions Nebraskans made to the Apollo program, then and now, as NASA continues to explore the wonders of the universe.

Join us in as Julie Anne Allen, Educator and NASA Ambassador, presents the July Brown Bag Lecture.

The lecture will also be uploaded on the History Nebraska YouTube channel afterward.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
