BACKGROUND NOTE



George W. Kline was born at Jamesport, Missouri, in 1875. The family moved to Nebraska in 1879, and Mr. Kline graduated from the University of Nebraska. When the Lincoln Star newspaper was founded in 1902 he became the city editor. Mr. Kline was a pioneer of public power development in Nebraska. He died in Lincoln, Nebraska in November of 1950.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of a scrapbook containing clippings and correspondence dating from 1933-1934. The material in the Kline collection relates to the establishment of the unicameral legislature in Nebraska. Correspondence includes a series of letters from George W. Norris to George W. Kline.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
