HISTORICAL NOTE



The Nebraska Memorial Association was organized in January of 1912, to work in cooperation with the Oregon Trail Memorial Commission, the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Grand Army of the Republic, the Nebraska Territorial Pioneers’ Association, and all other organizations working for the preservation of historical sites and the commemoration of historical events in Nebraska.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one box of records of the Nebraska Memorial Association. The bulk of this collection consists of correspondence of only incidental interest. Correspondents include: August F. Kliese, 1910; Clarence Sumner Paine, 1910-1912; Robert Harvey, 1910; and Addison E. Sheldon, 1917. The minutes and reports relate to information about historical sites and monuments.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
