BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Willard H. Waldo, a Nebraska native, state senator, and farmer, was born on April 2, 1912. His family owned a farm in DeWitt, Nebraska, where Waldo was raised. The family raised Duroc hogs, shorthorn cattle, and Hampshire sheep and grew assorted produce. Building on his farming background, Waldo received his bachelors degree in animal science and vocational agriculture in 1934 and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at the University of Nebraska. He married Beulah Plucknett on June 2, 1933 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

He held a variety of jobs, including a period as the director of the Weeping Water, Nebraska, German POW camp during WWII. In 1969 he became a Nebraska Senator and was a great sponsor and supporter of legislative bills dealing with Nebraska farmers and hog-growers. After his service in office, he settled into the position of President of Waldo Farms Inc.

Willard H. Waldo died in Wilber, Nebraska on May 2, 2010. Funeral services were held May 10th at the United Methodist Church in DeWitt. His body was laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery outside of DeWitt. About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
