BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Allan John Cameron, son of Donald and Mary Cameron, was born at Waterford, Ontario, Canada, in 1875. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1900 and came to Herman, Nebraska, that same year. He served in the medical corps during World War I, attaining the rank of Captain. Cameron served as president of the Washington County Medical Society and as vice-president of the Nebraska State Medical Society.  Allan Cameron was very active in the local community. He was a member of the A.F. & A.M. lodge at Herman, as well as the American Legion post and the Presbyterian Church. He served on the Herman village board and the school board.  Cameron married Minnie B. Eccles in 1901. She passed away in 1931. In 1933 he married Hazel Sherwood of Montclair, New Jersey. Allan John Cameron died at his home in Herman, Nebraska, on May 4, 1938.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection contains materials that relate to Allan John Cameron and his service as a captain in the Army Medical Corps, Company 35, Fort Riley, Kansas, in World War I. Papers relating to his work and personal life in Herman, Nebraska, are also included. Among the personal papers are an inventory showing drugs held by Dr. Cameron in 1915; military life insurance documents; stock certificates and information on the Hupp Automatic Mail Exchange Company, 1914, and Nebraska Clay Products Company; and a benefit certificate of the Supreme Lodge of the Fraternal Union of America.
