BACKGROUND NOTE

Gerald A. “Jerry” Stromer was born at Hastings, Nebraska, on December 25, 1942. He received his B.A. and M.S. degrees from Kearney State College. From a young age Stromer was heavily involved in local politics. Some positions he held included serving as chairman and treasurer of the Buffalo County Young Republicans; secretary and chairman of the Nebraska Federation of Young Republicans; Nebraska delegate to the Young Republicans National Federation Convention; and as a delegate to the Buffalo County, Nebraska State, and National GOP conventions. Stromer was elected to the Nebraska Legislature on November 3, 1970 and served from 1971 to 1975.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of ten boxes of papers relating to Gerald Stromer’s service in the Nebraska Legislature. The materials date from 1970 to 1974. The papers consist mostly of correspondence, subject files and legislative bill files.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
