BACKGROUND NOTE



Annette Carnahan, daughter of John and Rosanna Carnahan, was born at Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 27, 1930.  She graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska College of Home Economics.  She married Raymond Kubie and worked for a time as an advertising manager for Miller & Paine department store in Lincoln.  She then worked as a legal assistant for the law firm of Knudsen, Berkheimer, Richardson, Endicott & Routh.  She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Junior League of Lincoln, and a board member for the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra.  Annette (Carnahan) Kubie died on July 24, 1997 and is buried at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of six scrapbooks and various papers relating to the early life of Annette Carnahan Kubie.  The scrapbooks contain various items relating to class work and activities at Capitol Elementary School, Irving Junior High, Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska.  Also included are items such as correspondence, invitations, programs, tickets, photos, etc. from family events, social organizations and cultural and entertainment events in Lincoln and elsewhere.  Also present are files containing school reports and writings, her work in advertising at Miller & Paine, Junior League materials, and miscellany.  The materials in the collection date from 1936 to 1958.

History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
