Homer L. Kyle was born on a farm near Stratton, Nebraska, December 24, 1888, the son of John Wallace and Stella Kinney Kyle. He attended local schools and graduated from the Colorado Normal School and the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1913. During World War I, Kyle served in the 355th Infantry. After the war he returned to Nebraska where he began a legal practice in Lincoln. He also was involved in journalism and was co-publisher of the Daily Reporter from 1921-1926. From 1929-1959 Kyle served as assistant State Attorney General for Nebraska. Homer Kyle was married to Lydia Anne Schmidt on February 24, 1933. He was active in numerous civic and professional organizations including the VFW, Masonic Orders, and the Nebraska and American Bar Associations. Kyle died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 13, 1970.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of three folders of manuscript material arranged in two series: 1) Manuscript history of the 355th Infantry, 1918-1919; and 2) Miscellany. The bulk of this collection consists of a manuscript history of the 355th Infantry written by Homer Kyle who served in that organization during World War I. The history relates to Kyle's experiences and observations while in the military service in the United States and in Europe. Also included in the collection are miscellaneous pamphlets and printed materials relating to the World War II.
