SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The material in this collection consists of records from the Historical Office of the Nebraska Conference of the United Church of Christ in Lincoln, Nebraska, which have been loaned to the Nebraska State Historical Society for microfilming. The collection includes records of the Nebraska Conference of the United Church of Christ and its predecessor the Congregational Conference; records of state-wide missionary associations; records of associations of Congregational Churches formed within the state; records of Gates College in Neligh, Nebraska, and of Weeping Water Academy; records of the Lincoln Congregational Club; and records of individual Congregational Churches. Records of many other Congregational Churches, also loaned for filming, have been treated as separate collections and may be located in the finding aids by the name of the town followed by the name of the church. Other records of Congregational academies and colleges can be found under the names of the institutions.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
