Lunchbox Lecture – Hidden Gems & Hidden Work: Caring for the Art of the Great Plains

Discover the hidden gems of the Great Plains Art Museum's collection in this rare behind-the-scenes talk.

Go behind the scenes of the Great Plains Art Museum in this engaging look at works you won’t usually see on display at 12pm on August 18 at the Nebraska History Museum. Collections Manager Casey Seger-Franklin will highlight a selection of “hidden gems” from the museum’s holdings while sharing the fascinating, often unseen work that goes into preserving and caring for art. Through stories, images, and audience interaction, discover how objects are stored, handled, and sometimes travel—and why many of these remarkable pieces remain out of view. This informal talk offers a rare glimpse into the life of a museum collection and the decisions that shape what the public ultimately sees.

Special thanks to the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation for providing funding for this event series and the recording to broadcast on LNKTV.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
