Here’s something to look for next time you’re in downtown Lincoln. A Czech bagpipe (known as a dudy) is pictured on the outside of a prominent building. Can you find it?
This dudy consists of a leather bag and brass embellished horns. Edward Brt donated it to History Nebraska in 1953.
Bartholomew Brt brought the dudy from Bohemia to Nebraska in 1874. The Brts settled near Crete, where they farmed and provided musical entertainment for local events. They reportedly once received a live cow as payment.
But where is the building with the dudy? Scroll down if you give up.
Do you see it? It’s at the Nebraska History Museum at 15th and P Street. The actual dudy is displayed inside as part of the Nebraska Unwrapped exhibit.
